Recanto das estrelas, simplicity above all
The Recanto das Estrelas (Star Corner) is located in Peso, a town located half an hour’s drive from Fundão.
Outside the village of Peso, which overlooks the Zêzere River, Carolina Pires and her husband have transformed part of the family home’s buildings into rural tourism.
The main building is isolated from the main house. It includes three apartments in a row, offering a magnificent view of the Serra de la Gardunha.
The three apartments are identical. They can accommodate 4 people thanks to a spacious wooden mezzanine where the number of mattresses can be adjusted.
Lots of space: the apartments are 30 square metres and the bathroom, equipped with a shower, is far from being cramped. Everything is designed to accommodate the disabled.
The apartments are equipped with a television and have wifi (fast!)
A double bed, king size, topped with light fixtures made from traditional regional baskets, occupies part of the space. The fully equipped kitchenette allows you to prepare real meals, which is a great plus.
Simplicity, as we have said, is the key word. Simplicity and good taste, and care in the choice of materials.
Breakfast is excellent. Carolina leaves the fresh bread and cake in a rush basket at the door every morning. While the refrigerator includes everything necessary to prepare the first meal of the day, in quantity and quality (regional cheeses, seasonal fruits, delicatessen…).
The apartments open on the ground floor onto a relatively small swimming pool, which makes your stay in the summer very pleasant. Table and chairs outside and brazier invite you to relax on long summer evenings. In winter, the view of the mountain is a delight, and there are plenty of suggestions for walks.
Carolina, who is a professor of physics chemistry without assignment, is bursting with ideas: she prepares activities related to nature, such as a night stroll to admire the delicious “Christmas crib” village that is the village of Peso.
Carolina’s “so far” smile is worth all the hospitality in the world. Effective, she knows how to indicate the best places to stroll in the region. Shale villages, Sortelha, the historic town of Belmonte, mountains, walks, crafts, gastronomy….. are the trails to follow.
We liked it.
The proximity of Fundão and the villages of Sortelha and Belmonte. The view of the Gardunha. The pure swimming pool invites you to idleness. A well-kept breakfast and a friendly welcome.
We liked it a little less.
The absence of “aminities”. Don’t forget your bottle of shampoo!
